Hayesville, NC – During the recent stretch of freezing temperatures, Hinton Rural Life Center’s Firewood Ministry has been working steadily to ensure local families stay warm and safe.
Hinton extends sincere gratitude to its dedicated volunteer “Woodchuckers” whose consistent commitment makes a meaningful difference for neighbors facing financial, physical, and other challenges. As cold weather intensified, volunteers went above and beyond to split, stack, and distribute firewood to individuals and families at risk during harsh winter conditions.
When Hinton’s supply of split wood began to run low, the ministry partnered with Chastain’s Tree Service to bring in processed wood. This partnership significantly boosted available inventory and helped reduce the physical strain on volunteers as distribution efforts continued. Hinton extends special thanks to Joseph Chastain for his support and collaboration.
Hinton’s Firewood Ministry exists to protect the health and safety of neighbors who are unable to adequately heat their homes. The ministry is volunteer-driven and designed specifically for individuals in need. The firewood provided is not intended as free wood for general use or for resale.
The woodlot is open on Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Those in need of firewood should first check in at Hinton’s Administrative Office, located at 2330 Hinton Center Road, to complete a short form that provides volunteers with information to efficiently track and manage wood distribution to better serve our community.
With demand remaining high, Hinton welcomes additional volunteers to assist with cutting, splitting, stacking, and distribution. Community members interested in serving are encouraged to contact missions@hintoncenter.org for more information.
