Firewood Ministry
If firewood is your main heat source, but you’re having a tough time affording it, Hinton Center can help! Our firewood lot off of Hinton Center Road is open year round on Wednesdays, 8:30am – 12:30pm. Hinton’s Firewood Ministry is for our neighbors who are facing financial, physical, and other challenges to keeping themselves and their families warm. This volunteer-driven ministry is to protect the health and safety of those at risk in cold weather conditions. This wood is for those individuals and not just free wood, or for resale. Our supply is limited, so please understand our policy. To get firewood, first check in at Hinton’s Administrative Office at 2330 Hinton Center Road to complete a form for the wood lot volunteers to help us track wood distribution.
NEED FIREWOOD DELIVERED? We can deliver in extreme circumstances if you aren’t able to pick it up yourself, due to physical or transportation challenges, or have family/friends get it for you. Click HERE to send a firewood delivery request.
GOT WOOD TO DONATE? We gladly accept donations of hardwood and have volunteers who can collect it from your property. Click on the Wood Donation form HERE.
Safe & Healthy Housing Assessments & Home Repairs
Did you know your zip code can be a better predictor of health than your genetics? Hinton Center wants to see our entire community’s health and safety improve, so there are no financial requirements for having us do a Safe & Healthy Housing check at your home! We offer the home assessment and repairs to residents of Clay, Cherokee, and Towns counties.
For Hinton to do repairs and/or address other safety and mobility issues at your home, such as installing smoke detectors or building an accessibility ramp, there must be financial need or extenuating circumstances.
To get started, download, print, and read both pages of our Safe & Healthy Housing Assessment form linked here: Safe & Healthy Housing Assessment Information. Next, click on the Safe & Healthy Home Repair online application linked here, complete, and submit: Online Application. You can also download the application HERE and mail or bring it to Hinton Center at 2330 Hinton Center Road, Hayesville, NC 28904. Questions? Email missions@hintoncenter.org .
Christmas Care of Clay County
Hinton Rural Life Center works with local partners to offer Christmas Care of Clay County, which provides children with new clothing for Christmas gifts. Parents or guardians have the option to shop for their children or use the help of volunteers. Local donations support this ministry.
Applications for families living in Clay County, NC, are available in October at Hinton Center (2330 Hinton Center Road, Hayesville) and at various locations throughout the community, such as the Clay County Food Pantry, Matt’s Ministry, social services, and Clay County schools.
There is also an online application that will be linked here. La aplicación en español está disponible aquí. Applications MUST be submitted by the November deadline given on the form. Questions? Email missions@hintoncenter.org .
